Use of Collection

Generally a researcher may arrange to examine items in the collection by contacting the Dole Institute Archive, completing a research application and making an appointment to view the item(s). The requested item(s) will then be made available to the researcher for viewing in the Reading Room. Note: Some items may not be available due to their fragile condition or a contractual agreement with the donor.

Scope and Content

The Dole artifact collection spans years 1961 to present and includes approximately 5,000 items including gifts from heads of state and constituents.The objects range from crystal and china to political T-shirts, ball caps, hand-carved Jayhawks, commemorative plaques, and wind-up folk toys. Also included in the collection are political buttons, medals, pins, posters, handbills, flyers, and other ephemera.

Three-dimensional objects are arranged in boxes and on shelves according to “Memorabilia” [ME] categories (except textiles and scrapbooks which have their own numbering system):
