Fellows and Grant Recipients
The Dole Archive is pleased to offer several opportunities to assist scholars in their research while using the Dole collections. We can help defray some of the costs associated with research through travel grants and fellowships. Below are past recipients of these awards, which were first offered in 2010. For information on current opportunities and how to apply, please see the Fellowships and Grants page.
Dole Archive Visiting Fellows
Visiting Fellowships are awarded annually in the Spring semester to recognize accomplishments in the fields of history and archives. Fellows spend one-two days at the University of Kansas meeting with students, conducting research and participating in public programs.
2011 – David Palkki, Deputy Director, Conflict Records Research Center
Initiated by Secretary of Defense of Defense Robert Gates, the Conflict Records Research Center at National Defense University supports academic research utilizing records captured from the regime of Saddam Hussein and terrorist organizations. The study of these documents, once relegated to purely governmental uses, is now an important research collection. During his visit Palkki spoke with Senior Archivist Morgan Davis in a public interview about his work at the CRRC.
2010 - Richard Baker, Historian Emeritus of the U.S. Senate
Richard Baker and Senator Dole have a relationship that spans over twenty years, beginning with their collaboration in 1987 to create the “Bicentennial Minute” series in celebration of the 100th congress. Baker, now retired from the Senate, spoke to students and the community about the history of the Senate and how it has evolved over time.
